    Release: Bureaucracy

This new track was inspired by the passive aggressive psychopaths who generally entrench themselves in middle management positions throughout bureaucracies wherever they’re located.

Charles Wesley Cooper, III aka Telefon Tel Aviv
    April 12, 1977 - January 22, 2009.

So Charles died in 2009… and someone is busy removing many of his songs from Youtube. I hope the realize that that’s the equivalent of killing off memory of him after he’s dead.

Please never do that to me…

    Metabio v.0.1

In the beginning I listened. I listened so closely that the soul of the universe shook me. The walls came down like curtains dropping and I heard a voice dancing amongst many voices. It sampled here and there, a symbol, a word, a phrase.

No one else heard so they thought I was mad. But I’d never been happier.

I don’t know why it didn’t terrify me. Perhaps because it was like music to my ears? The voice of the universe would have to be in song, wouldn’t it? Music, not math, is its language.

So I’ve left on a journey into the mountains and I sit upon their rocky shores. My soul mate and I plan our path carefully, for it is no ordinary valley amidst their peaks that we seek… we will find That Hidden City. Ordinary mortals lack even the ability to believe in the place, and so it remains hidden to them.

But we are far from ordinary, because we are not afraid.

  6. quote

"There are things that you find by chance on vinyl that you never imagined, and vice versa when you go out with mics. A lot of emphasis is put on the origins of sound in sample-based music, and I really think it’s important, but it’s even more important what you do with these sounds: how they’re put together, manipulated and arranged. If you think about it, lots of people have said that I have a particular sound, which is odd when you consider that all my material comes from other places. "

    Fundamentals of Electronic Music

    From My Secret Tokyo:

    • Distortion & Overdrive
    • Vocoding & Autotuning
    • Compressor/Limiter
    • EQ
    • Low-Pass/High-Pass/Band-Pass
    • Reverb
    • Delay
    • Glitches & SFX

    MORE FUNDAMENTALS

    From mindmasher.com

    • Balance the frequency spectrum, that is use all of the audible sound spectrum to create as full (or as empty) as a sound you are looking for.
    • Do not be afraid to gut out instruments (using an equalizer to remove overlapping frequency ranges) so that they play nice with each other - don’t think of it as watering down, think of it as allowing other instruments to shine.
    • Pan your instruments from the very start (and plan out the overall sound stage), and do it intelligently: don’t pan all of your bassy sounds left for instance, and even try varying the panning across notes on the same instrument
    • Vary velocity on the instruments: both in relation to one another, and from chord to chord and note to note.

Sometimes I Speak, Sometimes I Listen

But do both at once and you’re a musician. I have a great anti-koan: Middle finger pointing at the moon. No, this is not random… this is chaos!

Every increase in your knowledge is a simultaneous decrease. You learn and you unlearn at the same time. A new certainty is a new doubt as well.

    Information Flows Like the Tao

Late night information download streaming into my brain. Years of hearing transmutes gloriously into deep listening. The zen of beginner’s mind is the addictive rush of new learning. Every bassline, every kick, high hat, pass, limit, compressor slowly unfolds like an ancient scroll as I roll my mouse wheel and click through to deeper mysteries.

Ask and you shall receive… is there anyplace this is more true than the internet?

  15. quote

"Do not make the mistake of supposing that the little world you see around you–the Earth, which is a mere grain of dust in the Universe–is the Universe itself. There are millions upon millions of such worlds, and greater. And there are millions of millions of such Universes in existence within the Infinite Mind of THE ALL. And even in our own little solar system there are regions and planes of life far higher than ours, and beings compared to which we earth-bound mortals are as the slimy life-forms that dwell on the ocean’s bed when compared to Man. There are beings with powers and attributes higher than Man has ever dreamed of the gods’ possessing. And yet these beings were once as you, and still lower–and you will be even as they, and still higher, in time, for such is the Destiny of Man as reported by the Illumined."
